Tie One On - Apron No.2

New Patterns...

Haven't had much time for crafting here lately, apart from working on my beloved ripple blanket, which is steadily growing!

I have however made some purchases...

1. A crochet pattern for making a Wallaby Joey. This came from crochetroo at her Etsy shop. I can't wait to start making one.

2. A pattern for making my next apron for Tie One On (I don't have much time left to make one, but I will try to get it done by the end of the month - as long as I don't have to wait too long for the pattern to arrive!) I ordered it last night from FABRIC.COM. I love the shape of these, not sure what fabric to use yet though.

I finished it! As I predicted, the bias binding took rather a long time, however I think it was well worth it.

                                              

                                              

                                              

                                              

My favourite part of the whole apron are the pockets - they're HUGE and red and spotty!

                                              

The pattern wasn't great, it turned out way too big. I had to take the sides in all the way to the pockets and even now I don't think that it's a very flattering fit!

The next tie one on theme is 'The Pocket' - what a great theme! I think I'll keep the apron shape simple this time and spend more time on the pocket. Watch this space...

Purl Rabbit is moving...

I am going to Swansea today to visit my family and to give something special to someone special...

She's going to live with my grandmother. I know that she will be very happy in her new home. However, I will be sad to see her go... time to make another Purl Rabbit perhaps!

Oh joy, time to think and craft... I love school holidays!

I have started working on my apron for Tie One On, it's taking way more time than I thought it would and it is HUGE! Need to make it smaller somehow...

The straps cross over at the back - forgot to take a photo of that!

Here is a close-up of one of the pockets - my favourite part! I used the linen fabric and the polka-dot fabric, so they're 'double thickness' and then I machine stitched a zig-zag onto them (to go with the rick-rack theme!) This is the first time for me to use rick-rack and I really like the effect - it finishes the pockets off nicely.

    

All to do now is to somehow make it smaller - I think I need to sew along the sides to give it more shape, which will hopefully make it fit better... we'll see. And then make the bias binding and sew it on, which will probably take me ages... and add some more rick-rack!

I can't wait to finish it now. I was planning on making this my school apron, for when I teach art... not sure whether the colour choice was the best, it won't stay this colour for long will it?!

She's here at last!

 

 

The most difficult part was turning the arms and legs out after sewing them (I got quite frustrated at this point!) It was well worth it though. I think if I make another Purl Rabbit I will put less stuffing in her, which would produce a more 'squishy' one - this one's quite firm.

I'm also not all that happy with her nose - too pointy. I might do that again...

I would really like to make the Raglan Sweater for her now - not sure when that will get done though!

Purl Rabbit update

Well, still no Purl Rabbit :(

When I went to Liberty last week to do a spot of fabric shopping I had intended on getting some fabric to make my rabbit - but guess what, I completely forgot to get some!

So the clothes have had to sit around for yet another week waiting to be worn... I will get some this week and hopefully by the end of next weekend there will be something special to post about (that's if I can make her!)

Why do I have to do things backwards?!

                                        

Well actually there IS a reason why I've made the clothes for Purl Rabbit before the actual rabbit; it's becasue I don't have the right fabric yet!

They were a little fiddly to make, but I really love them. I can't stop looking at them!

                                                   

                                                   

                                                      

They're just sitting here waiting to be worn now. Hopefully they won't have to wait too long...

I have given her a smiley face, but she is in need of something else and I can't quite seem to be able to put my finger on what yet... perhaps an apron, or a hat, or a flower, or something!

I have added some tiny seed beads around her face, which I like - not sure how clearly these show up in the photo though.

Next up I want to make these...
